Frankie's one of top two chippies in Scotland

Frankie’s is named today as one of the top two chippies in Scotland and among the best 20 in the UK.

We will go head to head with Moore’s Fish & Chips in Castle Douglas, Dumfries & Galloway, for the title of top independent takeaway fish and chip shop in Scotland in the 2015 National Fish & Chip Awards.

The winner of that contest will go forward to the national finals in London in January and compete against nine other regional winners for the title of best chippie in the UK.

Last year Frankie’s won the title of best in Scotland and number two in the UK in the awards.

“It’s great to get through to this stage,” said Frankie’s manager John Gold. “The competition gets tougher every year as standards in the trade rise.

“We will now be judged by industry experts during an unannounced visit. They’ll run the rule over every single aspect of what we do here at Frankie’s.”

The National Fish & Chip Awards are organised by Seafish and the judges assess product quality, sustainable sourcing policies, marketing initiatives and customer service.

Paul Williams, chief executive of Seafish, said: “Seafish have organised the awards for the past 27 years. Our aim has always been to showcase the very best fish fryers in the UK while setting incredibly high standards in the fish frying industry.

“I would like to offer up my congratulations to the shortlisted shops and wish them the best of luck as they battle for the regional winner title. The bar rises year on year for the awards and I can’t wait to see the top fryers go head to head at this year’s ceremony.”

The top 10 UK regional shops will be announced in October.
