At Frankie’s, we believe strongly in supporting our community. We devote a lot of time and effort to raising funds for local charities through special events. We have also assisted a range of community clubs, charities, schools, sports groups and events.
Most of the funds raised at our charitable events go to the Fishermen’s Mission, a key organisation which provides invaluable support for what is a strong fishing community (fishing and aquaculture accounts for 30 per cent of the Shetland economy).
In 2016 two members of staff took part in the Edinburgh half-marathon raising over £1200 for Macmillan.
On 30th August 2015 we held our fifth cycle event, attracting 42 participants who completed rides of 40, 20 or 10 miles and raising £6,600. This was divided between the Fishermen's Mission, Cancer Research UK and Alzheimer's Research UK.
Since it began in 2011, the Charity Cycle Sportive has raised more than £25,000.
On 6th, 7th and 8th June 2014 we held our second seafood weekend in conjunction with Blueshell Mussels and the owners of the Mussel Inn, generating £1,550 for the Fishermen’s Mission. Janne and Kristian Johansson of the Mussel Inn restaurants travelled to Shetland to cook a very popular menu – Saturday 7th June was the busiest yet at Frankie’s.
For 2015, we produced a charity calendar with drawings from the primary school children involved in our Frankie's Fish Course, the proceeds of which went to the Archie Foundation and the Anthony Nolan Fund.
Other charitable events we have been involved in include the Scottish Television Northern Isles Challenge, raising funds for the STV Appeal 2013.
We have had charity boxes in the shop for the Fishermen’s Mission, RNLI, CLAN, Anthony Nolan and the STV Appeal.
