Frankie’s Fish & Chips has donated £800 to children’s health charities raised from a calendar featuring primary school pupils’ drawings of seafood.

Staff decided to create the calendar after receiving the pictures from children who had taken part in the Frankie’s Fish Course at their schools.

The course, which is geared towards helping teachers meet sections of the Curriculum for Excellence taught in Scottish schools while also having a bit of fun, includes a popular hands-on session with a range of different types of seafood.

“We got lots of great pictures back and put them all on our website and on the screens in the shop,” said Frankie’s manager.

“We also awarded prizes to the artists and their classes for our favourite ones. But we thought we could do more, so we had the calendar made up and it has proved to be really popular.

“We’re glad to have been able to support vital charities such as the ARCHIE Foundation and Anthony Nolan.”

The ARCHIE Foundation’s acting head of fundraising for Grampian and the Northern Isles, Claire Bush, said: “This is a wonderful gesture from Frankie’s Fish & Chips.

“The children of Shetland have not only learned a great deal about life in our seas but have also helped to make a real difference for sick children in Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, which serves the Northern Isles.

“To have raised so much money for two charities is amazing and we are proud to have a Frankie’s Fish & Chips calendar hanging in one of our offices. We are very grateful to everyone involved.”

Nancy Gray, community fundraiser for Anthony Nolan, said: “The amount raised from Frankie’s calendar is absolutely vital in supporting our lifesaving work.

“It costs £100 to recruit each person to the Anthony Nolan register, so the more fundraising we do, the more potential donors we can recruit onto the bone marrow register, and the more lives we can save.”
