Frankie’s has been named Fish and Chip Shop of the Year by the Fishermen’s Mission after raising more than £5,000 for the organisation last year.

The award was presented to the Brae eatery at the charity’s annual general meeting at Trinity House in London today.

She was also joined by Alan Gifford, chairman of the Shetland advisory committee to the Fishermen’s Mission.

Frankie’s raised the funds at a charity Mussel Weekend held in May last year in conjunction with Blueshell Mussels, which featured Janne and Kristian Johannson of the Mussel Inn restaurants in Glasgow and Edinburgh, and its annual charity cycle sportive in September.

Mission director of fundraising Alison Godfrey said: “The award is in grateful recognition of all the help and support you offer towards the work of the Fishermen’s Mission.”

Frankie's praised the work of the Fishermen’s Mission in providing welfare and emergency support in fishing communities every day of the year.

“It is always a pleasure to raise money for the Fishermen’s Mission because it plays such a valuable role in our community and communities like ours,” they said.

“We’re touched to have been presented with this award and hope our customers will continue to help us help the Mission in the future.”

It has been a whirlwind year for staff at Frankie’s. In January it was named best fish and chip shop in Scotland and second best in the UK at the National Fish & Chip Awards in London.

They hope to have another Mussel Weekend in May or June this year and the annual cycle sportive will be on Sunday 31st August.
